Barcelona scouting 15-year-old Portuguese talent, but potential FIFA intervention may scupper move
Portuguese wing Cardoso Varela he was attracting attention from many of Europe's top clubs, but a strange career move saw his future take a turn. Barcelona is one of the parties interested in him.
Varela, 15, was until recently at Porto and played for their under-17 team. The Portuguese giants have not heard from him for months, and have filed a complaint with FIFA and the Croatian Football Federation, as who believe they may have a case against their agents. Sport say that FIFA plans to intervene.
The talented young forward reappeared in the fourth division of Croatia in Dinamo Odranski Obrez, and the report from O Jogo, who traveled there with the lawyer Wilson Sardinha and the agent Faustino Gomes. They were demanding 3 million euros from Porto to continue at the club, while his plan in Croatia was to wait until October when he turns 16, and he could sign a professional deal elsewhere in Croatia. His plan was that this was a bridge club before moving to the Bundesliga.

Varela was absent from various meetings about his future, and Porto tried unsuccessfully to contact him, but the teenager also missed his school exams. Barcelona watched the case develop, amazed, after registering an initial interest.
In the past, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have also been linked with Varela, but it seems that none of the three will sign them soon. Varela has also played for Portugal's under-17s, and clearly has enough talent to be worth anything to anyone.
