Barcelona Sporting Director Deco: “I did not take commission for the Raphinha deal, only my agent's fee”
Barcelona Sporting Director Deco has defended his role during Raphinha's transfer from Leeds United to the Blaugrana. The deal cost 58 million euros, and there were accusations that Deco received a hefty commission for the deal, which he denied.
Deco he was his agent at the time, and his presence was thought to be crucial in helping Barcelona sign Raphinha, over a more lucrative offer from Chelsea. Deco defended his role in the agreement on SER Catalunya.
“I had been an agent for eight years, creating a company from scratch, when Laporta called me. In June I said Raphinha that I would no longer be his agent. I had not registered. But I did not lose all that I had done in this operation. I didn't steal anything,” AS Diary mentioned
Deco says that he did not do his commission, but only his agents.
“I did not offer Raphinha to Barça. It was Jordi Cruyff who came to see me. When I come to Barcelona, I agree a commission and that's it. I sold my rights to an investment fund. I gave up my transfer of 4 million euros because Raphinha wanted to come to Barcelona. I didn't pay the transfer fee, only the representation fee. They didn't give me anything. I paid for the things I worked on. Who represents Raphinha now?” I have to ask him, he did not communicate.”
If he means that he sold his rights to a commission on an investment fund, or just his agency, it is not clear. However, it would not be the first time that Barcelona have come under question for their dealings with agents, amid allegations of high commissions paid to agents such as Jorge Mendes.
