Barcelona attacking midfielder Dani Olmo limped off in his side’s 4-1 La Liga victory against Girona on Sunday with an apparent hamstring injury.
The 26-year-old, who rejoined Barcelona in a €60million move (£50.8m, $66.7m) from RB Leipzig in the summer, was forced off in the second half, 14 minutes after getting on the scoresheet for the Catalan club.
Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick opted to take Olmo off for the 23-year-old Eric Garcia.
Speaking post-match, Flick confirmed that Olmo would need further assessments to determine the severity of his potential issue.
“We have to wait until tomorrow, we’ll do more tests,” Flick said. “We still don’t know the full extent but hopefully it’s not too serious.”
Lamine Yamal, meanwhile, scored twice as Barcelona extended their perfect start to the 2024-25 season.
The 17-year-old Spain winger opened the scoring in the 30th minute, capitalising on a mistake from David Lopez before calmly lifting the ball over goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga.
Yamal doubled his tally just seven minutes later, firing a composed, first-time shot from the edge of the box, before second-half goals from Olmo and Pedri sealed a comfortable win.
Former Manchester City winger Ferran Torres was shown a red card in the 86th minute following a heavy challenge on Yaser Asprilla.
The result sees Barcelona go four points clear ahead of rivals Real Madrid at the top of the table.
Flick’s side are next in action on Thursday in the Champions League against Monaco.
