La Liga has moved forward with plans to host its first domestic game in Spain, with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid set to dominate the Spanish league in the United States. However, once again, the president of the League, Javier Tebas, had problems with the Real Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
After an initial attempt to host Girona-Barcelona in Miami, USA, the Liga got the green light from both Barcelona and Athletic to make his tie that will take place in Montjuic on December 22. Tebas tried to go through the formalities with an interim committee in charge of the RFEF due to the suspension of president Pedro Rocha, and they had shown a willingness to give permission for the game to go ahead abroad.

However, as per MDthe RFEF had opened a consultation with the Ministry of Sport in Spain, but now they have withdrawn it, and the RFEF has decided not to go ahead with the idea. The RFEF is asked to raise the matter to UEFA once the clubs have agreed, and then they have to approve, at which point they would have to ask for the permission of the continental body, in this case CONCACAF. The Federation thought it was not the right time to push such a dramatic change to the competition given the institutional instability, but the League still intends to return with the idea.
This will be met with no lack of displeasure by Tebas, who has pushed for the idea for the better part of a decade, believing that it is the next step for the League in terms of marketing, and without a doubt a good financial one. Uncertainty in the RFEF is the main reason, however, and unless clear opposition is established by the next RFEF president, it seems only a matter of time before it ends.
