Ross Barkley praised an “important” three points at Villa Park, after Aston Villa began 2025 with a 2-1 win over Leicester City.
The midfielder broke the deadlock just before the hour mark, after what had proved a cagey first period with few openings.
He described how manager Unai Emery kept level heads in the dressing room at the break, and was pleased he and his teammates were able to get the job done.
Barkley said: “It felt great. It felt like we needed to get another win. Important three points.
“The manager said at half-time, we’ve experienced games like this last season, so just be patient, the chances will come.
“Keep pushing, and hopefully we’ll get the goals, and we did, so the plan worked.
“A difficult side to come up against today, well drilled. But the most important thing, like I say, is to get the three points.
“Hopefully, we can build on that.”
The win means Villa have still lost just once in B6 in the Premier League this campaign, with that defeat coming against Arsenal back in August.
Barkley cited his side’s home form as a key component in their quest for success this season, and insists that must be maintained if they are to achieve their goals.
“It’s important to have our home [as] our fortress, to be able to maintain a strong home record, which we have done,” the goalscorer added.
“Obviously, a few results could have gone our way in draws we’ve had, but we’ve maintained the good form at home. That’ll help us throughout the season.
“We just need to improve a bit on our away form and hopefully, at the end of the season, we’ll be right up there.”
