Ross Barkley is keen for Aston Villa to continue the momentum they generated prior to the international break as they head into Saturday’s clash at Fulham.

Unai Emery’s side visit Craven Cottage this weekend on the back of eight games unbeaten in all competitions.

Barkley is looking forward to returning to Premier League action, and expects a stern test from the west London outfit.

He said: “From my experiences over the years, sometimes after the international break, there can be a few iffy results, but the last one, we came back from being 2-0 down against Everton and won the game.

“Hopefully, against Fulham, we can get a win again and carry on with our momentum from before the break.

“We’ve gone on a bit of an unbeaten streak, which is good, and we’ve got big games coming up, so we need to maintain that.”

Barkley added: “We know what we’re going to face. They’re a top side, tactically well-equipped with Marco Silva – he’s a great manager and he’s got good ways of playing.

“They’ve got a talented group, so we are expecting a challenge, but I’m sure we’ll be ready.

“I’m sure they’ll be ready for us, but hopefully on the day, we’re the better team.”

After making his first league start of the season at home to Manchester United prior to the break, Barkley described the feeling of being back in B6, having re-signed for the club over the summer.

The midfielder is enjoying working with Emery and his staff, and insists he and his team-mates are learning lots from the Villa boss.

“I enjoyed it (Man Utd start) – being back at the club has been great for me,” he added.

“I’ve enjoyed every minute of it, and to get my first start in the league was great for me. Hopefully (there are) more to come.

“Not the result we wanted, but we’re maintaining a good record at home to continue with. It’s been a positive start.

“From day one, it’s been great to see the way the manager works on a day-to-day basis.

“He’s really intense, great communication and great analysis from his backroom staff. We’re learning every day and I’m thoroughly enjoying it.”
