Sport Bild reports that Bayer Leverkusen is going to try to make their final attempt to convince Jonathan Tah to sign a new contract at the club.
Despite Tah’s public statement that he will not extend his contract at the club earlier in the international break, it has not stopped Die Werkself trying to offer one final opportunity to extend his contract at the BayArena, which expires next summer.
In the summer, Tah had been linked with both Bayern Munich and Barcelona as it was likely the final chance Leverkusen had to sell the defender for money. The negotiations with Bayern even resulted in a public spat between Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro and Bayern’s director of sport Max Eberl.
However, there is no guarantee that Tah will be able to move to Bayern next summer. Sport Bild also says that despite reaching an agreement with the defender there were still doubts surrounding the signing of the Leverkusen defensive stalwart.
On top of this, Bayern’s early season centre-back struggles have shown that Tah is not the solution as the Hamburg native does not address any of the weaknesses in the current pairing of Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-Jae.
