Bayer Leverkusen have announced that midfielder Exequiel Palacios has had a knee operation and will miss the next four weeks.
Palacios had an operation on his meniscus in Argentina after the Copa America and has now returned to Leverkusen to begin his rehabilitation.
The Argentine’s absence means he will miss Leverkusen‘s first four games of the season against VfB Stuttgart in the Super Cup, Borussia Mönchengladbach and RB Leipzig in the league as well as Carl Zeiss Jena in the DFB Pokal.
Palacios’ injury is no longer a big issue for Leverkusen after the arrival of Aleix Garcia from Girona this summer. The Spaniard adds to the central midfield options of Granit Xhaka as well as Robert Andrich, who stepped up under Xabi Alonso and played his way into the German national team and partnered Toni Kroos at EURO 2024.
This calendar year has seen Palacios struggle with injuries as he missed several games at the beginning of the year with muscular problems.
