Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface suffers injury setback – a doubt for the game against Borussia Dortmund on Friday

Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed that striker Victor Boniface has suffered an injury setback and is now a doubt for their game against Borussia Dortmund on Friday evening.

Boniface is still recovering from a thigh injury he suffered in November and was meant to be returning to fitness in the new year, but that is now not an option. kicker reports that this likely means he will miss Leverkusen’s game against Dortmund as they return to action after the winter break.

Leverkusen played Rot-Weiß Oberhausen in a friendly in preparation for the return of the Bundesliga. They won 2-0 thanks to goals from Florian Wirtz and Patrik Schick.

Luckily for Leverkusen, Schick hit form just before the winter break as he scored four times against Freiburg in a 5-1 win. It is important that the Czechia international maintains this form with Die Werkself looking to chase down Bayern Munich in the second half of the season.

On top of Schick, Leverkusen have Martin Terrier who can play as a striker as well as new signing Alejo Sarco who joined from Velez Sarsfield on a free transfer earlier this month. The 19-year-old did not feature against Oberhausen.
