Bayern Munich host Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen in Saturday’s Topspiel at the Allianz Arena. Speaking at Friday’s press conference, Vincent Kompany welcomes a difficult game as the Rekordmeister look to keep their 100 percent start to the season intact.
“[Bayern Munich are playing] against perhaps the best team of the last twelve months,” said Kompany. “The fact that it is now always easy is also good. That’s a feeling we want to have. That we can compete against a strong opponent in the Allianz Arena.”
In this fixture at the Allianz Arena last season, Exequiel Palacios scored a penalty in the third minute of stoppage time to secure a point for Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen, before Die Werkself secured a 3-0 win at the BayArena in February, effectively securing the Bundesliga title.
Bayern Munich have won each of their six games across all competitions this season under Kompany, while scoring 11 goals in their last two Bundesliga games. The Belgian expects Bayern to dominate games, adding: “The image I have of Bayern is that there are no compromises, whether you press or not, whether you play or not. You want to be as dominant as possible.”
