Bayern Munich boss says Oliver Glasner was 'very keen' to join but Crystal Palace 'wouldn't release him'

Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeness has claimed that Crystal Palace did not let Oliver Glasner leave to become their coach.

Glasner joined the Eagles in February to succeed Roy Hodgson and guided them to 10th place in the Premier League after an impressive start at Selhurst Park.

Amidst its impressive start, Bayern It was revealed that they were interested in signing the Austrian as a replacement for Thomas Tuchel.

However, Palace valued him at a A whopping €100m (£84m) to retain their services for the summer.

Hoeness has since confirmed his attempts to bring Glasner to the club ahead of Vincent Kompany's final appointment.

“We spoke to Glasner, who we also liked,” he said via Sky Reporter. Florian Plettenberg.

“He really wanted to join Bayern, really wanted to. But his club hasn't given him the green light and Bayern aren't all-powerful either.”

Glasner won seven of his first 13 games in charge of Palace, with a 3-0 victory over Burnley in his first start in charge.

They went unbeaten in their final seven games of the campaign, a run that included wins over Liverpool and Manchester United.

Among those who shone under Glasner was Jean-Philippe Mateta, who scored an incredible 13 goals in as many appearances.

Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise also racked up ten goals and six assists in total during that time as Palace have shone in recent weeks.

However, they will face the new campaign without the latter after he completed his transfer to Bayern earlier this month.

Olise joins coach Vincent Kompany at the German giants following a season in which they failed to win a trophy for the first time since 2012.

Palace, meanwhile, are preparing for their first full season under Glasner but could face another challenge in retaining him if he continues his success there.
