Over the past twelve months, Leon Goretzka has made it clear that he has no intention of leaving Bayern Munich anytime soon.
Despite Der Rekordmeister insisting that the former VfL Bochum midfielder is for sale, Goretzka has stated that he will not depart Bavaria.
Despite Bayern’s plethora of midfield options, the 29-year-old still aims to be a key part of Vincent Kompany’s plans at the Allianz Arena and believes his opportunity will arrive once the Champions League starts again.
However, Kompany has different ideas and appears to now be pushing Goretzka out of the club.
Against SC Freiburg on Sunday afternoon, the 29-year-old made his first appearance of the campaign, but not in his usual midfield position.
Instead, Goretzka came on for Dayot Upamecano, featuring at the back of Der Rekordmeister’s defence.
With Joshua Kimmich, Aleksandar Pavlović, João Palhinha, and Konrad Laimer all earning minutes in midfield, this can be considered the latest act made towards Goretzka in an attempt to show the former German international that he is no longer deemed part of the plans.
Whether it will be enough to push him through the exit door is currently unknown, but the record champions are making it clear that Goretzka will not play a key role in midfield going forward.
