As reported by Bild, Bayern Munich fans could be banned from the club’s next away Champions League fixture.
On Wednesday evening, Der Rekordmeister travelled to the Italian capital to face Lazio in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie. With Thomas Tuchel’s side looking to bounce back from defeat against Bayer Leverkusen on the weekend, they would fail in their task after former Borussia Dortmund striker Ciro Immobile scored the decisive goal from the penalty spot.
As well as this, Bayern failed to register a single shot on target against the Serie A outfit, and will also be without Dayot Upamecano for the second leg. The Frenchman was given his marching orders for a foul on Danish winger Gustav Isaksen that led to the penalty kick.
However, while there are clear issues on the pitch for Der Rekordmeister, there are also problems away from it. Prior to kick-off, the Bayern ultras set off a significant amount of pyrotechnics, as the away block became covered in a thick red hazy fog.
Due to UEFA ruling, this could see Bayern punished with their fans banned from attending their next away Champions League fixture. The record champions have been on probation since December 2023 and were previously fined €40,000 for the use of pyrotechnics against Copenhagen in October.
Despite clear warnings from the club that this could be an issue, on Wednesday evening, the message was ignored. Therefore, if UEFA follow through with their ruling, then Bayrn fans will have their probation lifted, and they will be unable to purchase a ticket for their next away Champions League tie.
