Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany on Harry Kane’s injury: “There’s a chance he will play again this year. But he’ll miss a few games”
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany provided an update on Harry Kane’s fitness.
In Bayern’s 1-1 draw with Borussia Dortmund, Kane went off in the 33rd minute with a hamstring injury and was replaced by Thomas Müller. The extent of the injury has yet to be revealed publically, but Kompany provided an update on the timeline of Kane’s injury:
“It’s always difficult to say. There’s a chance he will play again this year. But he’ll miss a few games”
Bayern have several players who can replace Kane as their number nine. Mathys Tel has long been tipped as the player who could replace Kane down the line, while more immediate options are Thomas Müller and even Serge Gnabry. On replacing the Englishman, Kompany said:
“You can’t replace him one-to-one, he’s a top player. But we’ll solve it differently, we won’t be lacking talent tomorrow. We have options who can play in the position, Thomas Müller, Mathys Tel, Gnabry, Michael Olise, Leroy Sané, Jamal Musiala. These are players who have goals in them. As I said, you can’t replace Harry’s goals one to one, but we have options”
The Rekordmeister’s next opponent are Leverkusen in the DFB-Pokal round of 16. In the first meeting between the two this season, it was a one-sided 1-1 draw with Bayern dominating much of the game. Before they end the year, Bayern then faces Heidenheim, Shakhtar Donetsk, and Mainz and round it all off with a game against RB Leipzig.
