Sky Germany reports that Bayern Munich is set to hire Nil Schmadtke as their new chief scout, replacing Markus Pilawa who the club have parted ways.
Schmadkte will sign a two-year contract at the club and was the main target for Director of Sport Max Eberl who pushed to bring him to the club.
The Düsseldorf native’s background is in scouting having worked as a scout for both 1.FC Köln and Borussia Mönchengladbach before earning the role of head of scouting at Wolfsburg.
However, Schmadkte’s most recent role has been as Sporting Director for Gladbach where he spent a year in the role before leaving this past summer. It was suggested that Schmadtke left the role as he was receiving less and less influence in decisions as he worked alongside Roland Virkus, Eberl’s replacement at Borussia Park.
Nils is the son of Jörg Schmadtke who was last interim sporting director of Liverpool before the club hired Richard Hughes.
