As reported by Philipp Kessler, Bayern Munich will part ways with chief scout Markus Pilawa. The 47-year-old joined the Rekordmeister, under then sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic, from Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund in 2022.
Kicker further report that the future of Pilawa discussed internally over two weeks ago, but it would appear a decision has now been made.
Separate to Bayern’s scouting department, Kicker add that Piwala installed his own scouting team at the club’s Säbener Strasse HQ, and the costs of doing so are not proportionate to the benefits, which is one reason for the split.
As further reported, Kicker state that Bayern’s management are trying to streamline some departments, reducing the staff numbers which have reportedly become bloated in recent years. Because of this, it’s quite possible that Piwala’s replacement will be appointed internally.
During his time at career Borussia Dortmund, Piwala was instrumental in the transfers of Jude Bellingham and Erling Haaland.
