Saturday evening saw Bayer Leverkusen humiliate Bayern Munich 3-0 at the BayArena in a top-of-the-table clash, leaving Thomas Tuchel’s future in Bavaria up for debate.
Defeat for Bayern ensured that Die Werkself prolonged their unbeaten run in all competitions as well as leaving them five points behind Xabi Alonso’s side, as the dream of a twelfth straight Meisterschale begins to fade. However, as reported by Sky Germany, Der Rekordmeister are not looking to release Tuchel anytime soon.
According to the report, the plan at Bayern has always been to keep Tuchel in charge until the end of the season and then reassess their options in the summer. Regardless of their performance on Saturday evening, nothing has changed.
Bayern are now coming into the crunch end of the season, and there are fears that a change of leadership would only lead to a further crisis. With little time to dwell on the past, fixtures against Lazio and VfL Bochum now await Der Rekordmeister, who will now need to show their character and bounce back from Saturday’s setback.
Nevertheless, there is an understanding at the club that Tuchel is not solely to blame. Changes are expected to be made to the playing squad in the summer when Max Eberl’s role at the club becomes active in the spring, after acknowledging how difficult some of the players in the side are to manage.
Tuchel was said to be disgusted by how his tactics were disregarded on the weekend, and this has been understood by those above. Nonetheless, if Bayern are to finish the season without a title, then Tuchel’s long-term future at the club will undoubtedly be in doubt.
