Ian Maatsen has excelled since joining Borussia Dortmund on loan from Chelsea in the summer. The Dutchman has played 21 games across all competition, scoring two and creating two, while the defender’s form has earned him a place in the Netherlands squad for Euro 2024.
Speaking ahead of Borussia Dortmund’s final game of the season against Darmstadt on Saturday, Edin Terzić would like Maatsen to join the club next season.
“I would like us to work together next season too. He settled in very quickly and feels very comfortable here in Dortmund. Ian absolutely deserves the European Championship nomination, he’s on the right track.”
As reported last month, Borussia Dortmund would very much like to keep Maatsen beyond the summer, while the Dutchman would also be open to remaining at the club however, it’s unclear what Chelsea’s intentions are with the 22-year-old.
Ian Maatsen happy at Borussia Dortmund
Speaking to Ruhr Nachrichten last month, Maatsen said he felt a ‘special connection’ when joining the Bundesliga side from Chelsea in January: “Everyone gave me a very warm welcome and I immediately had a good rapport with the staff.”
