Sky Germany reports that Borussia Dortmund are leaning towards not extending the contract of Marco Reus, which is set to expire at the end of the season.
A final decision is yet to be made with talks between the two parties expected to take place at the end of April, the beginning of May. It is looking increasingly likely that this summer will bring to an end a 12-year stay at Reus’ boyhood club.
The only positive to take from this is that Reus does not intend to retire. Whilst it is unlikely that he will move to another Bundesliga club there is interest from the MLS and Turkey.
This season, Reus has played 28 times for Dortmund scoring six and assisted four. However, head coach Edin Terzic has preferred the likes of Julian Brandt ahead of the 34-year-old despite him being more available this season as he has not been affected as much due to injuries.
It has also been reported that Reus’ relationship with Terzic is not positive, which could be another reason behind the club legend’s likely forced exit.
Reus is currently 11 goals off of Adi Preißler (177) and becoming the Dortmund’s all-time top scorer.
