Sport Bild reports that Borussia Dortmund are planning an overhaul this summer to ‘sort the club out’. The aim is to reorganise and correct the squad.
The main focus in the summer will be the squad. Current loanees, Jadon Sancho and Ian Maatsen are unlikely to stay at Dortmund beyond the summer as Maatsen would cost around €35m and Sancho would cost close to €50m whilst also needing to waive some of his salary to move back to Dortmund permanently.
In defence, Marius Wolf and Mateu Morey are under observation as both contracts expire in the summer. An extension for either of them is not out of the question. While Niklas Süle will remain at the club despite criticisms of his fitness recently, Dortmund want to help Süle get back to his best.
While the future of Mats Hummels and Marco Reus is still in doubt. Dortmund will wait until spring before making a decision but as things stand Hummels is leaning towards a contract extension, whilst Reus is heading towards the exit door.
Donyell Malen could potentially be sold in the summer. If Dortmund receive a very good fee for the Dutch international they will be sold.
Finally, one of the heroes of Germany’s under-17 World Cup win, Paris Brunner’s future at Dortmund is uncertain. Both Dortmund and Brunner cannot agree on a new contract as Brunner is demanding close to €500k per year but Dortmund are unwilling to give the striker such a salary. There has been interest in Brunner from Italy and Dortmund are not against the idea of letting him go.
