As reported by Sky Germany, Borussia Dortmund are set to offer Nico Schlotterbeck a new contract at the club, making him one of the top earners at the Westfalenstadion.
Recently, the German international spoke to kicker about how Dortmund are entering a new era under head coach Nuri Şahin.
With new signings coming through the door at Dortmund, it appears as though the club are heading away from the pragmatic approach often seen under Edin Terzić to one of excitement under Şahin.
However, one area in which BvB feel as though they do not need to strengthen is the left-hand side of the centre-back partnership. Those in charge at the club view Schlotterbeck as a key player, and they are looking to reflect this by offering the 24-year-old a new and improved deal.
This will see the defender become one of the top earners at Dortmund, despite having a contract in place until 2027. Nevertheless, another reason for this new deal could be to fend off interest from Real Madrid.
Los Blancos have already expressed their admiration for Schlotterbeck, but, speaking to Sky Germany, the defender made it clear that he is not looking to leave the club any time soon.
“At some point I would probably be tempted to go abroad, but I have been here for two years now and have identified so much with BVB that I really want to play here for the third season, and probably the fourth and fifth, so I am really happy to be at BVB and also see it as a certain honour. I am aware of that. At some point we can perhaps talk about it, but so far only Borussia Dortmund plays a role in my mind, and I think for the next few years too.”
