Bild reports on Borussia Mönchengladbach’s five-year plan to return the club to Europe, after several seasons of disarray at the Niederrhein club.
The aim is for the plan to be completed within five years. First, the club is expected to keep faith in head coach Gerardo Seoane to avoid a situation similar to the past two seasons where Adi Hütter and Daniel Farke only lasted one season each.
The plan will see Gladbach return to their routes of producing players from their academy. The headline of this plan is Rocco Reitz, who has solidified himself as a key member of the Gladbach squad.
The next great talent in the Gladbach academy is striker Winsley Boteli, who has previously attracted interest from abroad. Others such as Kilian Sauck, Niklas Swider, Taavi Koukkumäki, Marcello Trippel, Elias Vali Fard, Can Armando Güner and Mathieu Nguefack will also play a role in the future if they fulfil their potential.
This idea is similar to how Gladabch originally rose to prominence in the late 1960s, and early 1970s as they relied on a team built with a core of local academy players: Günter Netzer, Jupp Heynckes, Berti Vogts, Herbert Laumen and Herbert Wimmer.
There will also be changes higher up in the club with long-term president Rolf Königs expected to come to an end within the next five years and it is likely former player Rainer Bonhof or Stefan Stegemann both vice presidents will take over.
Financially, the club are also expected to benefit in the next five years after a new sponsorship deal was signed with local construction company Reuter that is valued at €11m a year. A new cooperation with Puma is also likely to be extended in the next couple of years.
