Brentford's incredible run of goals from the start continued when Nathan Collins headed his team into the lead in the second minute against Wolves.
But the defender's attempt came 16 seconds late when the bees came close to creating Premier League history at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Before Saturday's 3pm kick-off, Brentford had scored in less than a minute in their last three Premier League games against Manchester City, Tottenham and West Ham.
The west Londoners became the first Premier League team to find the back of the net in less than 60 seconds in three consecutive games.
And doing so for the fourth time would have made Thomas Frank's team the first to score four goals in one minute in a single season.
But they failed to make history after Collins met Mikkel Damsdaard's cross to beat Sam Johnstone.
It came just 16 seconds into the second minute.
Brentford's early antics in recent matches have proven to be a bad omen as the club failed to maintain their lead, resulting in two defeats and a draw.
And Brentford fans would have feared the worst two minutes later when Matheus Cunha equalized for the hosts in what was a chaotic first half that saw six goals.
But the hosts regained the lead in the 20th minute thanks to a penalty from Bryan Mbuemo.
It was the 25-year-old's sixth Premier League goal of the campaign, just three behind the nine he scored last season.
Refusing to go away, Wolves equalized again moments later, with Jorgen Strand Larsen's low shot into the bottom right corner.
However, just two minutes later, Brentford scored again, this time through Christian Norgaard, who fired an effort into the bottom corner.
The drama didn't end there as Ethan Pinnock made it 4-2 in added time.
talkSPORT reporter Lewis Mason said it perfectly, saying live from the Gtech Community Stadium: “This game is mental!”
A win for Brentford would take them into the top half of the table.
But a defeat for Wolves would leave them rooted to the bottom of the table.
They are yet to get a win so far and have only picked up one point from their first six games.
