Brighton defender Jack Hinshelwood faces a season on the sidelines after suffering a stress fracture in his foot, talkSPORT understands.
Hinshelwood, who is enjoying an excellent season, will need surgery.
The 18-year-old made his senior debut last season but has been heavily relied upon this period due to the Seagull's injury crisis.
Hinshelwood, a midfielder by trade, has already scored three goals in just 12 appearances in the Premier League, playing mainly in defence.
Manager Roberto De Zerbi has had to deal with a number of significant injuries this season, namely long-term problems for regular starters Julio Enciso, Solly March, Ansu Fati and Pervis Estupinan.
