And we go…
1 minute: The Spurs fly away and Timo's show begins. Shoot? No, he points a pass to Brennan Johnson. And it fails its objective.
The players pay tribute to Barry Lloyd, the club's former coach and chief scout. A name from a very different Brighton.
Pascal Gross… or is it Groß? – is shown to the faithful of Falmer, as a way of saying goodbye. Now he is in Dortmund. What a player he was for Brighton. One of those underrated players that has been valued.
Via the BBC: Some interesting quotes from Ange Postecoglou, who hosted Fabian Hurzeler at Tottenham's training facility last season. “He spent a day with us. He asked me a lot of questions and I gave him too many answers, for sure.
“I actually dismissed it at one point because it was asking too much. I passed it on to the other coaches. I was curious about everything. He was already a senior manager, doing a good job, and the fact that he still wanted to ask questions made a big impression on everyone.”
Yash Gupta gets in touch: “David Squires did a cartoon on Werner after the Chelsea-Man City final in 2021. Best ground player outside the box. Well, maybe the sixth best in this Tottenham team. As long as he contributes well, I think his 'show' can be put aside for now.”
I'm a fan. A total entertainer.
Congratulations, Daniel Harris, for staying awake through this. I was glad the Arc showed up in the second half.
On the other hand, Chelsea and Nottingham Forest drew 1-1. It's a good result for Nuno, a coach we all rule out, right? (Okay, I did it.)
Jeremy Boyce gets in touch: “Given the way these two score and concede, it's 8 – 8 or 0 – 0, right?”
Get that vibe, yeah.
Last time for these two teams.
Fabian Hurzeler makes two changes from Chelsea last week. Yankuba Minteh comes in and Joel Veltman, Mats Wieffer and Pervis Estupinan stay on the bench. Ange Postecoglou opts for the same team that destroyed Manchester United. That means the Timo Werner show continues.
the teams
Brighton: Verbruggen, Kadioglu, Webster, Dunk, Veltman, Hinshelwood, Baleba, Minteh, Rutter, Mitoma, Welbeck. Substitutes: Steele, Lamptey, Igor, Gruda, Enciso, Ayari, Wieffer, Ferguson, Estupinan.
Tottenham Hotspur: Vicario, Porro, Romero, van de Ven, Udogie, Kulusevski, Bentancur, Maddison, Johnson, Solanke, Werner. Substitutes: Forster, Dragusin, Bissouma, Gray, Bergvall, Spence, Sarr, Lankshear, Moore.
Preamble
As the season begins to shake out, Brighton's great start to the season has dissipated, as have fears that Tottenham are about to explode. Five wins in a row will do that kind of thing. Spurs were impressive against Manchester United and then in midweek they faced Ferencvaros. A win could put Ange Postecoglou's team in the top four, where they would like to be. Brighton have not won in the first division since August and last week they were on the wrong end of a thriller with Chelsea. Fabián Hurzeler has already shown that he has fire in his belly, and so has Ange. So let's hope there are fireworks in Falmer.
