Bristol City and Aston Villa have paid tribute to a fan who has died after falling ill at Saturday’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture.

The Bristol City supporter was treated by medical staff after collapsing during the match at Walsall’s Bescot Stadium.

And the club confirmed the fan had died on Sunday. 

Bristol City Women posted on X: ‘Everyone at Bristol City is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of a City supporter who collapsed at Saturday’s Barclays Women’s Super League game against Aston Villa.

‘We send our sympathy and condolences to the family and friends at this difficult time.

‘We would also like to thank the on-site medical staff and the stadium staff at Walsall FC for their effort.’

Aston Villa Women added: ‘Everyone at Aston Villa is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of a Bristol City supporter who collapsed at yesterday’s @BarclaysWSL fixture. 

‘We send our sympathy and condolences to the family and friends at this difficult time. We would also like to thank the on-site medical staff and the stadium staff at @WFCOfficial  for their efforts.’

Carrie Jones’ stunning long-range strike had earned Bristol City a 2-2 draw with Aston Villa as the Women’s Super League strugglers reduced their deficit at the bottom of the table.
