kicker reports that Bruno Labbadia is now out of the running for the vacant Hamburg job and will not return to the club for a third time.
The fact that Labbadia will not become Hamburg’s head coach was made clear when interim Merlin Polzin was given an extension of his duties following Hamburg’s 3-1 win against Karlsruhe at the weekend. Polzin will now be in charge for their home game against Darmstadt on Sunday.
Polzin is a Hamburg fan having regularly travelled to watch the team home and away and would regularly be in the Nord Kurve at the Volksparkstadion.
If Hamburg beat Darmstadt at the weekend, then Polzin will have thrown his name in the hat to replace Steffen Baumgart. Former Nantes head coach Jocelyn Gourvennec is a name that has previously been linked with the HSV role.
Due to the nature of the 2.Bundesliga this season, Hamburg are currently second in the league four points off of first place Paderborn but level on points with Karlsruhe who are fifth.
