In this weekly feature, hosts of the Gegenpressing podcast Stefan Bienkowski and Manu Veth face off with their predictions for the forthcoming Bundesliga matchday fixtures. It’s three points for a correct score and one point for a correct result. Who will come out on top at the end of the season?
Manu’s Game of the Week: Bayern Munich vs Borussia Mönchengladbach
My match of the week is the true Klassiker between Bayern Munich and Gladbach. Even though Bayern won the return fixture, this is a game that has thrown up an upset on a regular basis. Gladbach did hold Leverkusen to a draw last weekend and although this will be a very different task could once again provide an interesting twist in what is already a fascinating title race.
Manu’s Predictions:
Heidenheim 1-2 Dortmund; Bayern 1-1 Gladbach; Freiburg 0-2 Stuttgart; Mainz 1-2 Werder; Bochum 1-0 Augsburg; Darmstadt 0-3 Leverkusen; Köln 0-2 Frankfurt; Wolfsburg 0-2 Hoffenheim; RB Leipzig 2-1 Union Berlin
Stefan’s Game of the Week: Heidenheim vs Borussia Dortmund
My game of the weekend has to be Dortmund’s trip to Heidenheim. It’s one thing to beat Darmstadt or Koln, but it’s another thing entirely to go to Heidenheim and pick up all three points. Frank Schmidt’s side have lost just two home games in front of their own fans in the Bundesliga this season and I suspect Friday night’s clash won’t add to that tally. Dortmund would have to be at their very best to win this game.
Stefan’s Predictions:
Heidenheim 2-2 Dortmund; Bayern 3-3 Gladbach; Freiburg 0-2 Stuttgart; Mainz 0-1 Werder Bremen; Bochum 1-1 Augsburg; Darmstadt 0-2 Leverkusen; Koln 0-3 Frankfurt; Wolfsburg 1-2 Hoffenheim; RB Leipzig 2-1 Union Berlin
Scores after MD19: Manu – 128, Stefan – 125
