In this weekly feature, hosts of the Gegenpressing podcast Stefan Bienkowski and Manu Veth face off with their predictions for the forthcoming Bundesliga matchday fixtures. It’s three points for a correct score and one point for a correct result. Who will come out on top at the end of the season?
Manu’s Game of the Week: Wolfsburg vs Borussia Dortmund
My match of the week is Wolfsburg against Borussia Dortmund as I suspect there could be some fallout from this game. With me expecting the Black and Yellows to win this game, the time might be up for Wolfsburg boss Niko Kovac. It will be interesting to see where Wolfsburg would go from there. Dortmund, in the meantime, have done the most of being out of the spotlight putting together a strong performance in the second half of the season and now look poised to comfortably finish in the top four.
Manu’s Predictions:
Köln 1-1 Bremen; Wolfsburg 1-2 Dortmund; Mainz 1-1 Augsburg; Hoffenheim 1-1 Union; Heidenheim 0-2 Leverkusen; Darmstadt 0-2 Stuttgart; RB Leipzig 1-1 Gladbach; Freiburg 1-1 Frankfurt; Bochum 0-2 Bayern
Stefan’s Game of the Week: RB Leipzig vs Borussia Mönchengladbach
Off the back of a rather pathetic performance against an injury-ravaged Real Madrid, RB Leipzig go into this weekend’s TopSpiel not only desperate for a win but also an opportunity to regain some respect. Marco Rose isn’t quite under pressure just yet, but more tepid performances could see fans and the media grow wary of him. Gladbach are in a similar situation, with their worst start to the second half of a season since 2004 and now sinking back towards the bottom of the table. Both teams and head coaches desperately need a win in this game, but I suspect they may need to accept a point apiece.
Stefan’s Predictions:
Köln 1-1 Bremen; Wolfsburg 0-2 Dortmund; Mainz 1-2 Augsburg; Hoffenheim 0-1 Union; Heidenheim 1-2 Leverkusen; Darmstadt 0-2 Stuttgart; RB Leipzig 1-1 Gladbach; Freiburg 2-2 Frankfurt; Bochum 0-3 Bayern
Scores after MD21: Manu – 136, Stefan – 140
