On Saturday RB Leipzig will be hosting Borussia Mönchengladbach as Marco Rose’s side continue their quest for Champions League football next season.
Leipzig currently sit in fifth place and are three points behind Borussia Dortmund, who currently occupy the last Champions League spot.
On Wednesday they suffered a 1-0 defeat in the Champions league at home to Real Madrid in the first leg and now face an uphill battle as they must win at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in the next leg to progress to the quarter finals.
It was an impressive performance from Leipzig though, and there were plenty of positives to take into the reverse fixture.
Domestically, it has been far from a perfect start to the year from Leipzig as they lost their opening three matches of the year and also dropped two points against Augsburg in their last league fixture which saw them drop out of the top four.
No team has conceded more goals than RB Leipzig in 2024 as they have conceded 11 already.
However, history is on their side for this fixture as they have never lost against Borussia Mönchengladbach in their history of being in the Bundesliga.
Gladbach are currently in 13th place which is ten points away from a Europa League spot and just six points above the relegation zone.
They have just one win in the past eight games and disappointingly dropped points against bottom of the league side Darmstadt at home last week with a draw.
On a positive note, Gerardo Seoane’s side are not shy to producing a good performance against the top sides as they earnt a draw against league leaders Bayer Leverkusen and defeated third placed Stuttgart this season so a result against RB Leipzig certainly isn’t ruled out.
Team News
Marco Rose is set to have the luxury of having a fully fit squad for this fixture. A lineup similar to the one that faced Real Madrid is expected.
Gladbach are managing the fitness of Robin Hack and Jordan Siebatcheu who both returned from injury last week but are yet to play a full match yet.
Forward Tomas Cvancara and goalkeeper Jonas Omlin will also be assessed as they are closing in on their returns from injury.
