Cavan Sullivan, 14, signs an MLS contract that includes a 'dream' clause with Manchester City, and could break Freddy Adu's record
Manchester City have snapped up another young talent by inserting a clause into the contract of a Major League Soccer star.
14-year-old Cavan Sullivan signed the largest local contract in MLS history with the Philadelphia Union.
Financial details have not been disclosed.
According ESPNPhiladelphia was not authorized to discuss details about the transfer incorporated into city man.
However, Sullivan confirmed Manchester City's involvement when discussing his deal with Philadelphia.
His brother, Quinn, 20, has been a Philadelphia first-team player since 2021.
“I always wanted to start my career here because this is my home and I've always been on the sidelines of Quinn's games and I've been in and around the facility when my uncle worked here,” Sullivan told ESPN.
“I've always been inspired to play in front of this culture and these fans are special.
“But I also think the collaboration between Union and City Group was… I think that was enough for me. I always see Man City. They are like every kid's dream team.
“For them (Philadelphia and Man City) to get together and agree something, I sat down with my family and my agents and we decided it was the best plan.”
Sullivan is the fifth-youngest player to sign a first-team contract in MLS history.
If he debuts before July 29, he will surpass former prodigy Freddy Adu's record of being the youngest player to appear in MLS.
Adu was 14 years and 306 days old when he debuted with D.C. United in 2004.
However, sealing a big transfer to Benfica at the age of 18 meant the ruin of his career. After numerous disappointing loans, Adu signed with Philadelphia for two years.
His career ended until 2021, with his last club being the Swedish Osterlen FF.
