Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana's move to AEK Athens has fallen through but he could still leave this month, talkSPORT understands.

Fofana was set to join the club on a season-long loan but AEK changed the terms at the last minute and has put the deal in serious doubt.

The deal, before AEK's last-minute adjustment, included a £20m purchase option and had to be completed before the Greek transfer window closes on September 11.

However, Chelsea are still hoping to loan Fofana to a club in Turkey before their transfer window closes on September 18.

It would be the third for the 21-year-old since joining Chelsea for £8.4m from Norwegian club Molde in January 2023.

Fofana made 17 appearances for German club Union Berlin last season before being called up in January and subsequently loaned to Burnley for the remainder of the campaign.

The Ivorian has also made four appearances for Chelsea.

Fofana's reported departure from Stamford Bridge would be the latest in what has been a hectic transfer window for Chelsea, with the Blues taking advantage of an extended window in Greece after the British window closed on August 30.
