Chelsea's late 1-0 win over Bournemouth broke the Premier League record for most yellow cards in a single game.

The previous record for most bookings in a Premier League game was 13, set by Tottenham in their 2-1 win over Sheffield United in September 2023.

Now, that record has been broken, with Saturday's tense clash at the Vitality Stadium seeing a whopping 14 points handed out by referee Anthony Taylor.

Two of them arrived when Chelsea conceded a penalty in the first half, one to goalkeeper Robert Sanchez and the second to Adam Smith.

Although Sanchezwho gave away the penalty after a bad back pass from Wesley Fofana, redeemed himself by brilliantly stopping Evanilson's shot.

And there were three yellow cards from the 87th minute onwards that helped secure a unique piece of Premier League history.

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola declined to comment on Taylor's refereeing in his post-match interview.

He said: “I won't talk about the referee.

“I've been talking and it doesn't work, so I've decided to try the opposite now, not talking and see what happens.”

Asked for his opinion on whether he considered it to be an aggressive match, he simply replied: “No comment.”

In the end, it was Chelsea who prevailed 1-0 on the south coast, with substitute Christopher Nkunku scoring the winner in the 86th minute.

He combined with the Blues debutant and Jadon Sancho, who collected the man of the match award from the bench, and then Nkunku fired into the bottom right corner.

Despite a late Bournemouth onslaught, Chelsea held on to win, securing their first away clean sheet since October 2023.

But in truth, they can consider themselves lucky to have taken all three points.

Goalkeeper Sanchez proved to be Chelsea's hero throughout the match, making a total of seven saves, including his heroic penalty saves.

Chelsea had almost half as many shots as the hosts, while also having less possession, but in the end, they showed their resilience to claim victory.

Their victory has lifted them up to seventh in the table, level on points with London rivals Arsenal in sixth.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, have dropped to 11th, although manager Iraola will be pleased with what he has seen from his team.
