He has seen a number of fans lose patience with Stamford Bridge's new owners, who have spent close to £1bn on new transfers, but have seen their team go backwards.

Pochettino is understood to be safe at the moment in his current role, while sacking him would mean a fourth manager in two seasons.

“He (Thiago) came today to talk to me. “I'm not going to talk about what we were talking about but the most important thing is that he came and talked to me.” Pochettino said ahead of Wednesday's FA Cup replay match in Aston Villa.

When asked about the pressure at Chelsea, he added: “Of course, it's always hard work. But at the same time it's an exciting project and a project that we know is difficult.

“We really trust the players we have. We're going to go into this moment knowing we can come back and win games.”
