Chelsea keep European hopes alive with thrilling victory as Nottingham Forest's wait for survival continues
Chelsea kept their top-six hopes alive with a thrilling 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest.
As a result of the win, the Blues are now seventh in the Premier League table and level on points with Newcastle with two games each remaining.
The evening at the City Ground got off to the perfect start when Mykhaylo Mudryk scored the goal Chelsea 1-0 up, before Willy Boly equalized eight minutes later.
It was inevitable that Callum Hudson-Odoi would have a say the day after his £3million permanent move to Forest last summer.
The winger did exactly that with a wonderful effort to put Forest 2-1 up with 16 minutes remaining, a goal that could have cemented Nuno Espirito Santo's side's Premier League status for next season.
But Chelsea showed the kind of spirit that has seen them return to European contention with Raheem Sterling leveling the match before Nicholas Jackson made it 3-2 in favor of the Blues.
That effort was Jackson's 17th of the season so far and could be crucial as Chelsea look to earn a place in the Europa League for next season.
Next up for Chelsea is a trip to face Brighton on Wednesday night.
For Forest, the defeat means their Premier League survival is yet to be confirmed.
That said, they have a three-point lead over Luton with just one game left to play, meaning Rob Edwards' side would need to claw back those three points and a 12-goal deficit to stay top.
Meanwhile Burnley relegated on Saturday, when it was confirmed that Vincent Kompany's side will join Sheffield United in the EFL next season.
