Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca wanted the Crystal Palace player sent off and believes Oliver Glasner's reaction was telling
Will Hughes was lucky to stay on the pitch in Crystal Palace's 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Sunday.
That's the opinion of the Blues boss Enzo Marescawho thought that moment could have changed the game.
Chelsea At the time, the team were winning 1-0 at Stamford Bridge, with Nicolas Jackson giving them the lead.
Hughes already had a yellow card when he cynically brought down Cole Palmer Just outside the area.
Palace immediately took off the midfielder, apparently in response to him avoiding a red card.
Asked by talkSPORT whether the Eagles should have gone with 10, Maresca said: Yeah, I think the reaction from their bench as well that they immediately made the change is pretty clear.
“But the referee thought otherwise. I think we were still winning 1-0 at that point, so the game with the red card was probably almost over.”
The Blues boss believed his side deserved all three points and are yet to win at home in their first two games at Stamford Bridge.
He added: “We deserved to win the match completely. We controlled the game.”
“Overall, we deserved to win the match. Unfortunately, it didn't happen.”
“The game was very good with and without the ball. After conceding the goal, we lost our way.”
