Enzo Fernández was involved in another controversy upon his return to River Plate, where fans chanted a discriminatory song against France.

The Chelsea midfielder found himself in trouble last week after… sharing a video of him and his Argentine teammates signing the racist chant after the victory in the Copa América final.

This led to the BluesThe French contingent unfollowed him on Instagram and Wesley Fofana criticised “uninhibited racism” on social media.

Fernandez He later apologised for the video and Chelsea launched an investigation after saying it condemned “all forms of discriminatory behaviour”.

And now the 23-year-old has been treated to the vile song upon his return to his boyhood club ahead of River Plate's 2-2 draw with Lanús.

The former Benfica player, who came through River's academy before leaving for Europe in 2022, was greeted with a standing ovation.

He came out onto the pitch wearing River's home shirt and proceeded to greet the thousands of fans.

In response, fans inside the Estadio Monumental chanted in unison the racist song aimed at France's black players to show their support for Fernandez.

The vile and disgusting song, which references the African heritage of several members of the Les Bleus squad, translates as: “They play for France, but their parents are from Angola.

“His mother is Cameroonian and his father is Nigerian, but his passport shows French nationality.”

It remains to be seen whether Fernandez will face any punishment for his part in the vile chant that was broadcast live.
