Preamble
Newcastle arrived at Stamford Bridge on the afternoon of May 2, 2012, having not won a league game there since 1986. They walked away with their famous three points, made all the sweeter by the nature of the winning goals. I'm not sure I've ever seen a better double from a single player than the two goals Papise Cissé scored that night.
The second goal is possibly one of the best ever scored in the first division. Cissé means it, without a doubt. This is not a lucky pop, but rather a calculated and bold marvelous coup that almost defies logic to defeat Prime Minister Petr Cech. And the quality of the second goal far outshines the first, which is a brilliant goal in itself: instinctive and powerful.
It was a classic Newcastle team, full of talent and cult heroes. Hatem Ben Arfa, Jonás Manuel Gutiérrez, Fabricio Coloccini, Demba Ba, Shola Ameobi – led by none other than Alan 'Hips' Pardew – comfortably defeated a Chelsea team that, just over two weeks later, would win the Champions League. Newcastle have not won at Stamford Bridge since then. His Premier League record at the Bridge is as follows: played 28, lost 20, drawn seven and won one.
Let's see if Newcastle can improve that desperate record tonight. They won't have a much better chance against this rather dispirited and exhausted Chelsea team.
