Despite spending lavishly on other transfer window, Chelsea It remains a work in progress and its defensive unit is expected to undergo a major overhaul next summer.

The club has already begun planning in that direction with Graeme Bailey reports on TBR Football that Marc Guehi has established himself on the Blues' radar.

Guehi was the subject of Newcastle UnitedThe player's interest came earlier this summer, the report adds, but Crystal Palace were unwilling to lose him despite receiving a £70m bid from the Magpies.

However, with the England international's contract in east London about to enter its final year in 2025, Chelsea sense an opportunity to sign him for a potential discount.

Liverpool and Manchester City They are also interested in him, the report adds, while Newcastle could rekindle interest in Guehi next year.

Guehi would be fantastic for Chelsea

Chelsea's defence this season has been made up primarily of Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana. And while Enzo Maresca has the likes of Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile and Tosin Adarabioyo at his disposal, a successful addition of Guehi could significantly improve his options in the centre of the defensive line.

The 24-year-old is starting to establish himself as a mainstay in the English national team too, and was particularly impressive at the European Championships this summer. His aerial abilities and physical prowess were a problem for the opposition and that is exactly the characteristic that Chelsea's squad is lacking.

Moreover, given that he played for their academy in the past, Guehi could look to return to west London if he feels he has some unfinished business with his boyhood club. That said, the Pensioners also have a very promising young squad and can offer him an attractive salary.

It will be interesting to see how the race for Guehi develops as next year's transfer window approaches and how much exactly Crystal Palace will ask for him after turning down £70m just weeks ago.
