Chelsea creative star struggles in crowded midfield position
Cole Palmer's versatility has been incredibly useful for Chelsea this season, but it has its limits.
Whenever we are missing a midfielder (and that has happened a lot this season), we use one of our reserve wingers and put Palmer in a more central role as a playmaker.
Last night was further proof that it is not his ideal position and we must do everything we can to keep him where he is most effective.
Even against lower league opposition last night, Palmer struggled to find space and create in the middle of the field. His biggest advantages were stifled and he had a very calm game compared to when he was wider.
It was just a consequence of the injuries we have, but Christopher Nkunku can't come back soon enough. Palmer and, therefore, the entire team suffer when he plays through the middle, and Mauricio Pochettino knows this better than anyone.
