Christopher Nkunku has endured a frustrating stop-and-start first season at Chelsea, but it could be about to get a lot worse.
The Frenchman was announced as the focal point of Mauricio PochettinoThe attack upon arrival, but has been plagued by injuries.
Chelsea spilled £52m to sign Nkunku of RB Leipzigbut a knee injury suffered in a preseason friendly in August meant fans had to wait months for their competitive debut.
Nkunku came off the bench on his English football debut to score for the Blues in a 2-1 defeat to Wolves on Christmas Eve.
However, just six days later, the 25-year-old suffered a hip injury in the 3-2 win against Luton which ruled him out for another month.
He found the net again on his return to the field by scoring a clever consolation goal in the 4-1 defeat against Liverpool.
The goal meant that Nkunku has scored two goals in five Premier League games for Chelsea and has ended up on the losing side in both.
The only other player in Blues history to score in more than one Premier League game for the club and lose both was Laurent Charvet.
Nkunku's French compatriot managed two goals in 11 Premier League appearances during a short-term loan at Stamford Bridge in 1998.
Charvet – who later played for Newcastle and city of manchester – scored in the 2-1 defeat against West Ham and in the 3-1 defeat against Leeds.
Nkunku will make that unwanted record his own if his next Premier League goal comes in a defeat.
Fortunately for the 26-year-old, Chelsea's next game will be away from home. crystal Palacelive and exclusive on talkSPORT, on Monday.
