Cole Palmer's goal against Wolves should not have been considered valid, but VAR was unable to intervene despite the infringement of the rules
Cole Palmer scored a stunning goal against Wolves at the weekend, but technically it shouldn't have counted.
He Chelsea The star scored his second goal of the afternoon at Molineux, but a little-known rule meant his shot was ruled out in error.
The attacking move began with Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez passing the ball to Nicholas Jackson.
However, slow-motion footage from beIN SPORTS showed the ball was actually in motion when Sanchez struck it upfield.
Under Premier League rules, the ball must be stationary before it is struck from a goal kick, meaning the subsequent attacking play should have been stopped.
As it turned out, play was allowed to continue and the ball found its way to Jackson, who hooked it over the defender and towards Palmer.
In a moment of pure class, Palmer executed a first-time chip over Jose Sa and into the back of the net.
Fortunately for Palmer, they were saved by the fact that both he and Palmer were in attacking positions.
This meant that VAR had no way of intervening in the course of play and that Stockley Park had no authority to examine the goal kick.
Palmer's goal made it 2-1 to Chelsea after Matheus Cunha had equalised following Jackson's opener.
Jorgen Strand-Larsen made it 2-2 at half-time before Chelsea swept aside the visitors in the second half.
Noni Madueke bagged a Surprise: hat-trick in the second halfbefore Joao Felix found the net to give Chelsea a 6-2 victory.
Palmer has scored 26 goals and provided 18 assists since joining Chelsea last summer as their breakout star.
But if the Blues struggle to break into the top four, Jamie Carragher predicted that I could return to Manchester next summer.
Speaking to The Overlap, Carragher said: “I've just had a thought. If Chelsea have another bad season, we've talked about it before.” Manchester United having a real problem on that right wing.
“He's a big Manchester United fan, isn't he? Wouldn't it be something that United should visit in maybe 12 months if it doesn't work out?
“You know what, I think that could happen. Yeah, Cole Palmer “to Manchester United.”
