Conor Gallagher was left speechless as pundits revealed astonishing statistics after scoring twice in Chelsea's win.
Chelsea's Conor Gallagher was left stunned when pundits revealed how far he had come in Monday's 3-1 win at Crystal Palace.
The 24-year-old was instrumental in the victory at Selhurst Park, scoring twice in the second half. Mauricio PochettinoThe men came back from a goal down to get three crucial points.
Gallagher produced two smart finishes to cancel out Jefferson Lerma's first goal before Enzo Fernández secured the victory in added time.
The victory saw Chelsea bounce back from back-to-back league defeats to Wolves and Liverpool and climb to the top half of the table.
Gallagher was instrumental in Chelsea's turnaround and his performance was compounded by an incredible career statistic that left the star stunned.
The England international, who took home the Man of the Match award, admitted his calves were “cramping” in the second half when interviewed on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football panel.
He was told that the cramp was probably due to the distance he covered during the match, which was equivalent to a whopping 13 kilometres.
A stunned Gallagher responded: “Wow, that's not like that,” before laughing with studio guests.
He continued: “I always want to run as hard as I can for the team, but to be fair, I didn't feel like I ran that far because we had the ball so much. But that's good, I'm happy.”
Gallagher has featured in all but one of the Blues' league games this season and appears to be a key component in Pochettino's plans.
But his future remains a source of speculation with moves to Newcastle and Tottenham discussed both last summer and during the recent January transfer window.
Chelsea are believed to value their academy star at around £50m as they face Financial Fair Play regulations.
But everything has been normal for the Three Lions star, who seems willing to stay and prove his worth at Stamford Bridge.
Gallagher is also doing no harm to his hopes of being included in the England squad for Euro 2024.
The midfielder was an unused substitute at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and hopes to play a more prominent role in Germany this summer, if selected.
