Cristian Romero appeared to attack Tottenham on social media before quickly deleting a post he shared.

The Argentine defender was part of the Spurs team that faced Arsenal Sunday's north London derby, a match they lost 1-0.

As well as allowing the Gunners to make Premier League history, the defeat generated tension on social media.

An Argentine journalist named Gastón Edul went to X to claim that Tottenham gave him Arsenal an advantage by allowing Romero and his other stars to return from their international duties independently.

National federations are responsible for organising their players' travel to and from international matches, however, some clubs offer private travel solutions to get their players home more quickly and in greater comfort.

Romero had been with Argentina for their World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Colombia before returning to London for the derby defeat.

Translated by Google from Spanish to English, Edul posted: “Tottenham lost again to Arsenal.

“He has not yet consolidated himself to fight because he is not in the details.

“It was the only Premier League club to have recalled its own national team players by its own means and without its own logistics, as decided by its leaders.

“It gave him an advantage because his players arrived with less rest than the rest: Cuti Romero played with a feverish squad.”

That post was reposted by the Tottenham and Argentina defender, before being quickly deleted, however it is unclear whether the post was intentional.

Romero was beaten in the air from a set-piece by Gabriel Magalhaes as Arsenal claimed a 1-0 victory.

Tottenham have a poor record when defending set pieces. Angel Postecoglou has failed to appoint a set-piece coach since joining from Celtic last summer.

Postecoglou said: “I know, for some reason people think I don't care about set pieces and that's a story that can be repeated for years. I understand that.

“As I said, we work with them all the time, like we do with all the other teams. You know they are a threat.

“Overall, we managed very well today, but we switched off at one point and paid a price. You learn from that and move on.”

Postecoglou was firm in a tense press conference that Tottenham would win a trophy this season, with the Carabao Cup being their first opportunity to do so.

Tottenham's next game is against Coventry City in the third round of the competition on Wednesday night, a clash that will be broadcast live on talkSPORT 2.
