Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi? Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala shares his opinion

Since breaking into the Bayern Munich starting XI during the 2020/2021 campaign, Jamal Musiala has quickly established himself as one of the best young players in the world. Over the past four years, Musiala’s dazzling feet, breathtaking burst of pace, and clinical end product have left many Bundesliga defences on their knees.

This has, therefore, made many spectators wonder whether Musiala could one day be crowned the best player in the world. In order to do so, it is likely that the 21-year-old would need to play a starring role in either a Champions League or World Cup triumph.

While he may not be at the level to yet be named to be honoured with the Ballon d’Or, despite having already been nominated for the award, there is no questioning that he has the talent to do so. As well as this, winning the Ballon d’Or is a personal goal for Musiala, something that he has made clear in the past.

To be on the same list as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi is an honour for any footballer, but who is the greatest of all time? Speaking to Bayern TV, Musiala gave his answer to football’s most-asked question:

“For me, Lionel Messi has to be the GOAT. There are things that no one but him can really do.”

Musiala was then questioned on which other footballers would join Messi to make his top five list, and the 21-year-old named Cristiano Ronaldo, Pele, Diego Maradona, and Gerd Müller before stating:

“It’s hard for me to name a few of these names because I didn’t see them play.”

For Musiala, it is clear that Messi is the greatest player of all time, and the Argentinian is someone that the Bayern star has looked up to since his childhood. Perhaps one day Musiala will be considered as influential as the former Barcelona magician.
