- Aston Villa Women Vs. West Ham United Women – Sun, Dec 15th 2024, 14:00
Kenza Dali was delighted to mark her return to the starting 11 with an assist, goal and a win on Sunday afternoon.
The France international scored Villa’s third and final goal of the game as they defeated West Ham United 3-1 at Villa Park.
Speaking after the game, Dali said: “That’s really good we needed that.
“We are on two wins now and we can go into the holidays.
“It allows us to get closer to the top six which is the objective.”
The Villans have suffered some difficult, and at times, harsh results during the course of the season so far so Dali describes Sunday’s win as an ‘important’ one.
“I think the girls worked hard,” she explained.
“Sometimes in football, you keep working and working and it’s (the wins) not coming.
“But at one point when you do the right thing it’s always coming.
“It was important, and we really needed that and I’m really happy for the club and really happy for the team.”
The 33-year-old also went on to express her love for the team and badge.
“I’m not someone who likes to speak about statistics.
“The most important for me today was that I enjoyed it and enjoyed being back in the team,” Dali continued.
“I love this club, I really love this club and I love the people.
“I will always play for the badge, I will always play this club and I’m really happy I could do that today.”
Dali sealed the victory on the 83rd minute with a terrific solo strike but light heartedly admits that she never meant to go it alone.
“To be fair I was waiting for Gabi, I really wanted to pass it to Gabi,” she shared.
“But the defender picked her and I decided to shoot and it went in.
“I think it allowed us to breathe a bit as you’re never safe at 2-1.”
The win propelled Villa up to seventh place, two points behind sixth, and Dali states that ‘nothing is over yet’.
She said: “This league is competitive and that is why we enjoy playing in that league.
“Nothing is over yet, we’ve had a bad start but I think this team can always turn things and that is going to happen.”
