Earlier this week, Dani Alves was provisionally released from prison, after posting bail. It is the first time in more than 14 months that the former Barcelona and Sevilla defender has been out of prison, after being arrested on sexual assault charges in January 2023.
Alves was convicted of those charges earlier this month, and handed a four-and-a-half-year sentence, but an appeal has since been launched by his defense. While the verdict is awaited, he is free to enjoy his freedom – as long as he does not leave Spain.
Alves He could be out of jail for a while, as the outcome of his appeal is unlikely to be heard soon. Brand say that, at this stage, it is difficult to see if it will be heard before the beginning of 2025 – this can be inferred from the text released by the Court of Appeal of Barcelona.
For now, the case remains open, and may not be closed again for some time.
