Danny Murphy fears Jurgen Klopp's imminent departure from Liverpool could lead to an exodus from Liverpool this summer, led by Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.
Klopp explosive advertisement Last Friday created uncertainty about what the future will be like at Anfield without the German in charge.
Liverpool pattern Van Dijk He hinted his future could lie away from the Merseyside club with just 18 months left on his current contract.
The same can be said of the talismanic striker. Salah whose contract also runs until 2025. The Egyptian was the subject of a bid from the Saudi Pro League last summer, but another approach this year could yield a different result.
Former Reds midfielder Murphy believes there is likely to be uncertainty among the players closest to the outgoing German.
“I think it worries the players who have a good relationship with him (Klopp) because if you are a Mo Salah or a Virgil van DIjk You think 'how is it going to affect me?' “Does he see me the way Klopp sees me?” Murphy told talkSPORT.
“Virgil and Salah are of a certain age. They have 18 months left (on their contract). There is a situation where they could use it as an outlet to try something new.”
Van Dijk was recently asked if he could see himself as part of the post-Klopp era at Anfield but maintained a neutral stance, leading to speculation that his time at the club could also be coming to an end.
“That's a great question. I don't know,” Van Dijk said. “Hopefully we will have the success we all dream of and by then there will probably be more clarification on what the club wants for the future and then we will see.”
Murphy believes Van Dijk's evasive comments were ill-timed, especially after Klopp's announcement.
“In a way, I admire her honesty because she is too honest. The timing isn't great, she would have kept calm for a while and just gotten on with the job.
“You have had the bombshell from Klopp and now what Van Dijk says is that depending on what the club does it will depend on what I do.
“He doesn't say I'm leaving and he doesn't say I'm staying here no matter what.”
