David Moyes appears furious as West Ham controversially denied late winner against Aston Villa after lengthy VAR review
West Ham saw a beautiful winning goal against Aston Villa disallowed for handball after a lengthy VAR check.
The hammers He flicked the ball over the line in stoppage time and walked away to celebrate in a jubilant London stadium.
However, the cheers turned to groans when the goal was checked with handball on the goal line.
It seemed to take forever for those at Stockley Park to decide their course of action in east London.
Finally, referee Jarred Gillett was told to look at the screen.
And, upon observing it, he decided that the goal could not stand.
West Ham couldn't believe it, with the boss David Moyes cutting an annoyed figure during a check that lasted around six minutes.
talkSPORT journalist Ian Abrahams called the check “ridiculous” and Andy Townsend added: “Was he looking for handball or fingerprints?”
After the match, Moyes was asked by talkSPORT if VAR checks should have a time camp in the middle of such a long period between the goal being scored and then disallowed.
“I think you should talk to VAR about that, maybe if you can't get Howard (Webb's) number, maybe ask some of the other referees who could explain it better.
“As I said, we've had four in one week where the handball situations haven't gone in our favor. That's it, there's not much more to say about it.”
“In the second half, Villa took a step forward, they were the better team for some periods. I am very pleased with our overall performance.”
West Ham had seen an earlier Michail Antonio goal also ruled out for handball, and the result clearly did not go their way.
The boos sounded full time, and the Hammers fans were clearly unhappy with their late-game misfortune.
It is the second consecutive home Premier League match in which West Ham have dropped points following their 2-2 draw against Burnley.
The point could be key to town in their quest to qualify for the Champions League next season.
