West Ham withdrew a contract offer from David Moyes last season, it has been revealed.
The former Hammers boss left the club in the summer after his second spell in charge.
During four and a half years as manager, Moyes won the club's first trophy in 43 years.
In addition to the Conference League triumph in 2023, it also achieved three first-half places and three European qualifications.
However, the club decided not to extend the 61-year-old's contract beyond the end of last season.
Moyes has now revealed, however, that he was initially offered a new contract before the president. David Sullivan withdrew the proposal.
Appearing in the Stay with the football podcastThe Scot explained: “We (West Ham) beat Arsenal on December 28, we beat them at the Emirates and that day they offered me a new contract.
“Then we lost three games in a row. I didn't sign the contract because, to be honest, I wasn't sure if I should stay. I wasn't entirely sure.
“The contract wasn't a big contract, but the biggest part of it was that he (David Sullivan) withdrew it. He said 'well, I'm going to withdraw the contract.'
“So he withdrew the contract, right after the results. And we said 'look, let's wait and we'll make a decision at the end of the season.'”
West Ham finished ninth last season and reached the quarter-finals in both the Carabao Cup and Europa League.
After the departure of Moyes, the former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui was appointed as his replacement in the summer.
However, the Spaniard has already been criticized after an indifferent start to the campaign.
West Ham are currently 14th with just 11 points from their first 10 Premier League games.
However, they find themselves six points clear of the relegation zone ahead of this weekend's clash with Everton.
Meanwhile, Moyes is yet to return to the dugout in the four months since his departure from the Hammers.
However, last month he revealed that he had been addressed by both clubs and national teams already this season.
